Description from the seller

This beautiful antique apothecary jar is a charming and characterful object for enthusiasts of historical pharmacy. The jar is decorated with a painted portrait of a classical apothecary, surrounded by floral motifs and clear crackle glaze that further emphasizes its age.

The word ‘THERIACA’ refers to an ancient remedy that was used in pharmacies well into the 19th century. These kinds of jars traditionally stood on the shelf behind the counter and formed an important part of the pharmacist’s interior.

A beautiful and decorative pair of antique apothecary pots, consisting of two different sizes, made in traditional cream-white faience with hand-painted decoration in blue and ochre-yellow. The pots are equipped with richly detailed cartouches featuring cherubs and clearly legible inscriptions MENTA and ORIGANO, all in the classic apothecary style.

Both pots sit on a heavy tin foot; the smaller pot is also complete with an original tin lid. The combination of ceramic and tin gives this ensemble an authentic, historic look that immediately evokes an old apothecary or herb room.

The pots are in good antique condition, with the usual signs of aging such as slight wear to the rim and the decoration, appropriate to their age and use. No obstructive cracks or restorations observed. See the photos for a careful impression of their condition.

A particularly decorative and collectible duo, ideal for fans of apothecary objects, antique ceramics, or classic interior styling.
