The first volume alone of Plutarch's Lives.
Volume in-12 (12.5 x 9 cm) in its first binding, of German origin in stamped sow hide. Decoration of vegetal borders and central panels depicting Justice on the first cover and Lucrèce on the second, accompanied by the legends:
« Justice, whoever you are, you perceive the painting with light » for « Justice, whoever you discern the painting with light »
The chaste one bore great praise for Lucretia's beauty.
Complete volume in itself of 952 pages (32 numbered chapters of the preface, 1-818, 104 numbered chapters of the index). The last leaf is blank.
Binding rubbed and stained but the decoration remains clearly legible. The edges are red with a carved/engraved decoration, partially gilded. The interior of the volume is clean, slightly and uniformly browned. There is a cut on the title with a few letters missing on the verso.
