Description from the seller

Good condition.

Description:
This decorative ornament is modeled in the form of a tied cloth bag, evoking the traditional image of a fukubukuro or a pouch associated with Hotei, the deity of fortune. The body is softly rounded and slightly asymmetrical, suggesting a bag filled with contents, while the gathered knot at the top is expressed through gently folded, flowing contours that resemble fabric drawn together and secured. The overall silhouette conveys a sense of fullness, generosity, and quiet abundance.
The surface is finished in a subdued, earthy brown tone with a fine, granular texture and a restrained metallic sheen, giving the piece a calm and grounded presence. A small raised detail at the top is highlighted in gold, functioning as a visual focal point and reinforcing the auspicious character of the object. This contrast between muted body and luminous accent adds refinement without disturbing the understated harmony of the form.
The underside shows a neatly finished base with a maker’s mark, indicating careful craftsmanship and an intention for formal display. As a whole, the ornament reflects a traditional Japanese aesthetic that values symbolism, tactility, and restraint. Its association with prosperity, good fortune, and protection makes it particularly suitable for display in a tokonoma alcove or on a low shelf, where its meaning and sculptural subtlety can be appreciated quietly.
