The object shown is a Casio ST-1 portable calculator with built-in timer and stopwatch functions. Introduced in Japan in 1977, it was one of the first devices to specifically combine these functions.
Main Features
Functions: It is a four-function calculator (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), with percentage, memory, and square root.
Stopwatch: Include multiple stopwatch modes: standard, dead time (time out), and two lap times (lap-1, lap-2), with a dedicated switch to switch from calculation mode to timer mode.
Display: It uses a blue-green 8-digit vacuum fluorescent display (VFD), recessed for better visibility in bright-light conditions.
Design: The distinctive design includes a cover to protect the calculator keypad during use as a stopwatch and a large button, thumb-operated, to start/stop the timer.
Power: It runs on a single 1.5 V AA battery.
