Kumu Nsembu black & white mask. Democratic Republic of Congo. The Kumu (or Komo) people can be situated in the Ituri rainforest in the northeastern part of the DR Congo. This kind of Nsembu masks were used for the initiation of young people into adulthood. The mask presents an overall soft rounded shape contrasted by its more geometric black and white colouring. The typical large rounded eyes and sharp wooden teeth complete the expression that is linked with the Kumu tribe.
