Beautiful Satsuma pocelain tea servise, rich decorated with overglaze enamels (moriage technique), and gilt, amazing hand-paint, Nagoya Japan
The set is made of thin "eggshell" porcelain.
Consist of:
1. Four cups 5 cm tall and 9 cm on the top
2. Four sauser 13 cm in diameter
3. 1 large teapot + lid, 17 cm tall
4. 1 small teapot + lid, 12 cm tall
5. 1 sugar bowl + lid, 12 cm tal
The decoration style incorporates polychrome painting with rich colors
and extensive gold gilt on the geisha dress and on the another decor.
Each geisha have her own color of dress with 24 k gold paint decor around the neck.
A key feature of these sets is a lithophane (a translucent relief image)
of a geisha visible at the bottom of the cups when held up to the light,
a technique invented over a thousand years ago.
The sign in the image is the Japan means "double happiness" symbol (囍), which means joy and happiness.
Made in the mid-1920s - 1930s.
This set is a realy unique sample of the oriental art.
