Description from the seller
Stunning 24K gold perfume bottle by the famous French crystal manufacturer Saint-Louis.
Saint-Louis is the oldest glassworks in Europe and probably in the world. Throughout their rich history, they have been suppliers to the most prestigious royal courts of Europe and beyond.
Emblem of the city of Nancy in France, the thistle (French for 'Cardo') was the original inspiration for a first service created in 1908. In 1913, the name was anglicized, becoming Thistle. Since then, it has nobly shone on the grandest tables. Venetian-style stripes, beveled cuts, and 24-carat gold decoration adorn its parison. Cardo: over 100 years old and sharper than ever.
Thistle was founded in 1913, inspired by the Chardon service created in 1909. In 1913, the anglicized name Thistle was adopted, and the service continues its heritage through its name and the plant motif of its engraved and gold-decorated crest. Since then, it has shined on the most beautiful tables.
The thistle was the inspiration for the design of this service, created for Nancy's exhibition in 1909, during the height of Art Nouveau. Chardon, referencing Nancy's coat of arms, was presented with the city's motto: 'Qui s'y frotte s'y pique' ('He who rubs it, pricks himself'). Subsequently, following the Entente Cordiale, the Chardon became the Thistle and shone on the most beautiful tables. The thistle has existed for 110 years, and since the 1970s, it has been adorned in gold and platinum.
All glasses bear the Saint Louis mark/stamp at the base of the glass.
