Description from the seller
Very large round plate in solid crystal produced by the Val Saint Lambert crystal works, model "Torsade", presented here in a rich ruby red color. This iconic decorative piece sits within the productions of the 1960s, a period during which the Belgian manufacturer explored freer, sculptural forms, highlighting the mass, color, and movement of crystal.
The plate stands out with a subtly softened circular shape, structured by a succession of ten gently defined facets barely perceptible, which rhythm the circumference without breaking the overall fluidity. The main decoration extends on the underside: the solid crystal is deeply molded into twisted volutes, arranged in a spiraling motion radiating from the center toward the edge. These strong reliefs give the impression of a continuous rotation and imbue the piece with remarkable dynamism. The ruby-red color, dense and bright, varies in intensity, while the interior surface, perfectly polished, reveals through its transparency the fine filigree pattern of the lower decoration.
The coupe is in very good structural condition. There is evidence of small cooking residues, visible as tiny dark inclusions, characteristic and normal for a large piece of solid crystal. A long, slender nick is present inside the plateau, accompanied by a few light traces of wear, consistent with the age and use of the object, without altering its overall presentation.
In the 1960s, Val Saint Lambert underwent a phase of stylistic renewal, gradually moving away from the strict codes of Art Deco and from traditional sizes to propose more expressive and organic forms. The manufacture then relied on the technical virtuosity of its workshops and on the plastic strength of solid crystal, often colored, to create decorative objects with a strong visual presence. The Torsade model fully embodies this trajectory, illustrating Val Saint Lambert's ability to combine glassmaking tradition, formal innovation, and exceptional mastery of the material during that period.
The dimensions are:
- Top diameter: 36 centimeters,
- Base diameter: 6.8 centimeters,
- Height: 4.6 centimeters,
- Weight: 4800 grams.
The platter will be carefully packaged and shipped promptly in a secure manner. Local pickup and combined shipping are available. The photos are part of the description.
