Josef Jìra (1929-2005), Attributed to - Early Expressionist Study

Rare Mid-Century Atelier Study by Josef Jíra (1929-2005) - Village Scene Description: "Offered for auction is this compelling oil painting on canvas, attributed to the renowned Czech expressionist Josef Jíra. The work is hand-signed 'Jira' in the lower left corner. Provenance & Personal History: This piece has been part of my private collection for over 20 years. It was a significant birthday gift from a very close friend, and it has been cherished and carefully preserved since then. Technical Observations & Authenticity Markers: • Technique: The painting showcases a masterful and thick Impasto technique with vigorous, emotional brushstrokes characteristic of Jíra’s early experimental phase. • Support & Frame: The canvas is mounted on its original wooden stretcher. The reverse side reveals deep, natural wood oxidation and the presence of original hand-forged nails, firmly placing the work in the mid-20th century (c. 1950s–1960s). • Atelier Details: A key highlight is the presence of paint residues and brush wipes on the side edges of the wooden stretcher. This strongly suggests that it is an authentic atelier study, painted while the artist was working in the studio. • Condition: The work is in good vintage condition, featuring a natural craquelure and an age-appropriate patina that further validates its historical origin. This is a rare opportunity for collectors of Eastern European Modernism and fans of the Czech Avant-garde to acquire a soulful, early-career study."
