AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A TRAVEL MICROSCOPE by a BELGIAN MAKER, c. 1840

A travel microscope with two columns and a stage that allows fine focusing.
The microscope screws onto the mahogany case and can be easily dismounted and locked into it.
The microscope bears the very rare signature of a Belgian maker “Ch. Michel, Optician in Liège”.
We can date this signature to around 1840, because Michel worked in this town from 1843 to 1850.

This type of microscope, normally of French origin, very seldom bears a signature.
This rare case, moreover, allows for precise dating.
The microscope has two objectives. Its optics give a very good image, and the microscope is in perfect condition and fully functional.
