Description from the seller

ANCIENT NEAR EASTERN RED JASPER STAMP SEAL-IRON AGE /c. 900-600 B.C./-*ANIMAL MOTIF-RARE
Historical Context:

Exceptional ancient pyramidal stamp seal, likely originating from the Neo-Assyrian or Levantine spheres during the Early to Mid-1st Millennium BC. Pyramidal seals of this type were favored for their ergonomic design and were often used as personal signets or protective amulets.

Physical Details:
• Material: Carved from a high-quality red stone (likely Red Jasper or Carnelian), showcasing a deep, rich hue and a smooth, vitreous luster from centuries of wear.
• Design: The base is engraved with a stylised animal motif. The impression reveals a powerful linear depiction of a quadruped, a common protective symbol in ancient Mesopotamian and Phoenician art.
• Condition: Excellent archaeological state. The suspension hole is intact, and the engraving remains sharp and clear.

Item Specifics:
• Culture: Neo-Assyrian/Phoenician
• Era: Iron Age (approx. 900–600 BC)
• Material: Red Jasper/Semi-Precious Stone
• Type: Pyramidal Stamp Seal
