Old cast-iron mortar, decorated in relief with a cherub on both sides, accompanied by its period pestle. The decoration is integrated into the cast metal, made in a single piece during casting, and not added later.
This type of mortar was traditionally used in pharmacies, apothecaries, or old kitchens, before becoming an object appreciated for collection and interior decoration. The cherub motif, characteristic of the late 19th century, sits within a neoclassical / historicist style.
The piece displays a uniform antique patina, consistent with its age and use. The overall structure is solid, stable, and well balanced, reflecting careful craftsmanship.
