Description from the seller
Flag of the P.C.I.
The flag of the P.C.I. (Partito Comunista Italiano) represents the former Communist Party of Italy. The flag typically features a red field with the party's iconic symbol: the red star, the hammer-and-sickle emblem, and often the Italian tricolor in the corner. The color red symbolizes socialism, the workers' movement, and the fight against fascism and inequality.
The P.C.I. was founded in 1921 and grew to become one of the largest and most influential communist parties in Western Europe. During World War II, the party played an important role in the resistance against Mussolini's fascism. After the war, it remained a major political player for decades, especially at the local level and within trade unions and cultural organizations.
In 1991, the party was officially dissolved following the fall of the Soviet Union and changing political relations. The P.C.I. was succeeded by new leftist groups, including the Partito Democratico della Sinistra (PDS), which later became part of broader progressive movements within Italy. Although the original party no longer exists, the flag remains a recognizable symbol of the historic Italian communism and the workers' struggle of the 20th century.
