Description from the seller
Unique find!
From the firm Benckiser of Pforzheim (Germany), a gold-filled (doublé) filigree bracelet set with a large ruby (Verneuil); beautiful filigree craftsmanship!
The bracelet was made circa 1903–1912, by one of their skilled silversmiths!
Benckiser was a factory and wholesale supplier of gold and silver jewelry, founded in 1816 and liquidated in 1912.
At the 1900 World's Fair in Paris, they won a gold medal with their jewelry!
Stamped on the clasp with the maker's mark B and the old crown with a cross above it.
The bracelet frame is a combination of silver-plated and gold-filled, something you still rarely see!
The "Ruby" stone is synthetic (Verneuil) and has a beautiful deep red color, dimensions 14 mm L x 7 mm W.
The first synthetic stones (rubies) were developed via the Verneuil process in the late 19th century (1887), with a breakthrough in 1902–1903 by the French chemist Auguste Verneuil.
He perfected a flame fusion technique (flame fusion) which led to the commercial production of synthetic ruby around 1903.
Inner circumference of bracelet, measurement: 5.7 cm - Width 1.5 cm.
Weight : 12.31 grams.
The name Doublé (in English: Rolled Gold and in Dutch: gewalst goud, in French: laminé) was legally protected by the Reichsgericht ruling of 21 December 1923; it may not be used for goods whose gold plating is produced by a different process, for example electroplating.
Jewelry of this quality is nowadays still rarely found!
