Masque, a polychrome Bozo lion decorative mask from Mali, carved in wood with brass details, 42 cm high and 17 cm wide, in excellent condition, sold without a stand.
Description from the seller
In African art, the Bozos are known for their pieces with bright colors.
A very beautiful example of a decorative animal mask with a polychrome lion.
The Bozos are a people who still remain semi-nomadic today, moving their dwellings according to the seasons and water levels, upstream or downstream of the river for some families. They often live on temporary islands created by reeds, or even partially create them by drying out the banks of an islet.
Under the constraints of having to settle down during Cheikhou Amadou's reign (1810-1844), they remained nomads and returned to their thatched huts for a few months of fishing after the rainy season.
