Description from the seller
A well-running turntable with a good stylus, a headshell, and a new belt, no dust cover.
description
Considering all the attention that direct-drive turntables are getting, it might be surprising that a large number of critical and knowledgeable audiophiles still prefer the proven belt-drive design.
And rightly so, says Akai. The belt-driven system still has a number of advantages over direct drive, which, together with its more economical construction, give it an excellent price–performance ratio.
The AP-B21 is a carefully designed model built for practical operation, making it easy to pair with any home audio system. And when you hear the excellent sound, you’ll agree that this is a case where one good turn deserves another.
In contrast to belt-driven systems, a direct-drive system places the motor directly under the turntable platter. As a result, consumers for many years could only benefit from the superior wow- and flutter characteristics of a direct-drive system, at the expense of more noise and vibrations.
With the AP-B21/B21C, Akai offers you the benefits of both the smooth, quiet operation of a belt drive and the inaudible wow and flutter.
These high performances, of course, were not achieved without effort, and Akai's engineers had to develop a newly designed 4-pole synchronous motor with improved rotational accuracy compared with earlier models.
To make the performance even more stable, they then added a heavily cast aluminum turntable, a sensitive J-shaped tonearm, a sturdy chassis, and large, damped isolation feet to provide good resistance to acoustic feedback.
