Description from the seller

Refined Parisian mahogany side table with a trompe-l'œil inlaid top, rosewood and ebony elements.

France, Paris – Second half of the 19th century (c. 1870–1890)
Elegant Parisian occasional table of fine cabinetmaking, produced in the second half of the 19th century, in the midst of the late Napoleon III period, a moment of maximum refinement for petit mobilier intended for bourgeois salons and representative interiors.
The structure is made of solid mahogany, a wood favored by Parisian ateliers for stability and aesthetic appeal, today enhanced by a warm, deep patina perfectly in keeping with the period. The turned legs are harmoniously proportioned and connected by a central turned crossbar, a structural and decorative element that confirms a high-quality artisanal craftsmanship.
The top is the true highlight of excellence: a highly refined geometric inlay of perspectival cubes (trompe-l'œil), executed with remarkable precision by juxtaposing precious woods chosen for chromatic contrast and grain. They are clearly distinguished:
Maple for the lighter and brighter parts,
walnut for warm and brown tones,
rosewood (rosewood wood) / palissander for the more marked and deeper grain, with pink-violet shades typical of cabinetmaker’s woods.
At the center sits a concentric hexagonal composition, a decorative focal point that elevates the whole and testifies to careful, non-serial design.
Of particular value is the presence of inlaid rhombi in genuine ebony applied along all four edges of the band; a rare detail for objects of these dimensions and indicative of superior cabinetmaking, intended for a cultured and exacting clientele.
The solid wood perimeter frame surrounds the inlay with balance and rigor. The item is presented in excellent condition, with normal signs of wear consistent with its age, which do not compromise its beauty or solidity, but rather strengthen its authenticity.
Designed as a petit table de salon / side table, ideal beside armchairs or in a conversation corner, it is a decorative element of great charm, perfect for classic, eclectic, or collector interiors.
