Pendentif météorite Seymchan 

Seymchan est une météorite pallasite trouvée dans le lit asséché de la rivière Hekandue, un affluent gauche de la rivière Jasačnaja dans le district de Magadan , en Russie , près de la colonie de Seymchan , en juin 1967.

La masse principale de 272,3 kilogrammes (600 lb) a été découverte lors d'une étude effectuée en juin 1967 par le géologue FA Mednikov. La masse était une météorite de forme triangulaire empreinte de pouce qui gisait entre les pierres du lit du ruisseau. Un deuxième spécimen de 51 kilogrammes a été trouvé avec un détecteur de mines à une distance de 20 m du premier en octobre 1967 par IH Markov. La messe principale a été confiée à l'Académie des sciences de l'URSS.

Lors d’une nouvelle expédition en 2004, Dmitri Kachalin a récupéré environ 50 kilogrammes de nouveau matériel. De manière remarquable, environ 20% des nouveaux spécimens contenaient des cristaux d' olivine, ce qui révèle la nature siliceuse du météorite. La structure pallasitique n'avait pas encore été découverte lors d'études sur de petites sections de la masse d'origine, constituées uniquement de métal.

Seymchan appartient au groupe principal pallasites, mais il est considéré comme anormal en raison de sa teneur élevée en iridium. Avant la découverte de sa structure pallasitique, il avait été classé dans l'octahédrite grossière anormale IIE. Seymchan est considéré comme un pallasite stable et résistant à la rouille.
