Description from the seller
German WWI beer stein made of stoneware with tin lid – military artillery motif, 1914
German beer stein from the World War I period, made of stoneware and fitted with a heavy tin lid.
The lid is richly decorated with crossed cannons within a laurel wreath, a clearly artillery motif that was frequently used within German military symbolism.
In addition, a cross bearing the year 1914 has been placed, referring to the outbreak of the war.
This type of beer mug was produced specifically within the context of World War I and is part of the broad tradition of German militaria objects in which military motifs and national symbolism are central.
Such objects were produced as commemorative and collector's items and give a good impression of the militaristic visual language of this period.
The pul has a classic bulbous shape and features relief decoration in stoneware. The hinged tin lid is fully functional and closes properly.
The combination of heavy stoneware and tin is characteristic of German beer steins from the WWI period.
The underside is marked with embossed numbers (including 2370), presumably a model or production number.
state
Good used condition, with normal signs of use and aging appropriate for an object over a hundred years old. No visible cracks or restorations. The tin shows an authentic, even patina. See photos for a complete and accurate picture of the condition.
Origin
