AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

French Art Deco leather pedestal side table – ca. 1925–1935

Origin

France
This type of leather pedestal table with an octagonal top and pedestal base is commonly attributed to the French Art Deco period.
Design, the choice of materials, and construction are closely aligned with this.

Period

Art Deco, circa 1925–1935.

Style

Art Deco
Geometrically shaped side table with an octagonal top and octagonal pedestal, supported by four pilasters.
Functional and understated, with a clearly artisanal character.

Materials and Construction

Wooden core, covered with a linen intermediary layer and then vegetable-tanned leather.
The leather is mechanically fastened with hundreds of copper domed nails, using traditional techniques.

REPAIRS

Professional structural repairs have been carried out on the underside in the past.
A significant crack in the wooden pedestal has been cleanly, solidly and professionally repaired and secured.
This crack is inactive and does not affect stability.

Additionally, the leaf and pedestal were firmly re-secured to the four pilasters at an earlier stage.
The little table is therefore extremely strong and stable, with no play or movement.

The four pilasters are perfectly parallel to one another, but exhibit a slight common slope.
The blade is perfectly level.
This concerns an old, stable alignment with no constructive significance.

CONDITION

Fair Art Deco condition with clear signs of age and use.

The leather shows:
• natural craquelure across the surface
• light wear spots
• Localized fat and color depth, particularly on the blade
• a visible crack in the leather on the pedestal (see photos), stable and inactive

These features are the result of long-term use and aging, and are part of the authentic patina.
There are no loose parts, no active cracks, and no instability.

PICK UP / SHIPPING

Collection is possible in Nijmegen, Netherlands.
Insured shipping is possible, including photographic documentation of the complete packing process.

Summary

This is an honest French Art Deco side table with visible, noted imperfections that suit its age and use.

This is not a 'perfect' piece of furniture, but an authentic French Art Deco side table with visible history, professionally stabilized and technically fully reliable.
Ideal as a side table, pedestal, or decorative accent piece in an Art Deco, eclectic, or modern interior.
