Emsa GmbH is a well-known German manufacturer of household goods, kitchenware, and garden accessories. The company was founded in 1949 by Franz Wulf as "Franz Wulf & Co Plasticwarenfabrik" in Greven. In 1956 it moved to Emsdetten, where the headquarters are still located.
Why 'W. Germany'?
Products with the stamp "W. Germany" or "West Germany" were produced between 1949 and 1990, the period during which Germany was divided. Especially after a court ruling in 1973 this label became standard to distinguish from products from East Germany. Nowadays this label is a guarantee of authentic vintage quality.
Iconic Products
Emsa is known for its colorful plastic designs, often in the distinctive "Space Age" or "Retro" style of the 60s and 70s:
Kitchenware: brightly colored egg cups, snack towers, and serving bowls.
Thermos flasks: well-known models such as the "Samba" and "Rio" (the 1980s).
Garden: Colored watering cans and planters with a wood-grain effect.

Since 2016, Emsa has been part of the French Groupe SEB (known for Tefal and Krups).
