Porsche Master 408 Doppelsitz, built in 1958.
Description from the seller
Thank you very much for your interest in our Porsche Diesel Master 408.
As the enthusiasts have already seen, this is the rarest Porsche specimen, featuring the renowned 7-speed gearbox and the tandem seating arranged one after the other.
The 408 Master was actually intended for the American market, and a few were originally supplied from Europe. This is one of the rarest examples delivered from Europe with hydraulics and a lifting mechanism!
This Master is in very good condition. A few years ago it was completely rebuilt and beautifully restored.
The 4-cylinder, 50 HP engine starts right up and runs fantastically. The engine is equipped with numerous new parts, and recently, in March 2024, the cylinder heads were newly surfaced and pressure-tested.
The engine is also free from smoke and oil consumption!
Steering gear completely refurbished and also fitted with new high-quality components, making this Master easy to steer with two fingers!
Complete with the rare wheel weights and the two original front weights.
The chassis and bodywork have been sandblasted and repainted at an auto body shop in the original Porsche color.
New wiring, lighting, fuses and battery.
New seats, seat springs, and new mudguard seats with cushions.
The 7 gears shift perfectly without any noise! The brakes work well, including the handbrake.
4 new tires.
Lifting mechanism, PTO functioning well at both the front and rear.
But what it's all about, of course, is that this Porsche is a matching-numbers car! The engine and chassis numbers match.
Porsche comes with complete German paperwork; we can help with and organize worldwide transport.
Top investment, and only a few of the known ones still exist from the small edition.
After restoration it stands dry and warm in the collection and has occasionally been visited by a small gathering.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
