Description from the seller
Rainer Fetting
Berlin/Milan - 1983
Rainer Fetting (born 1949 in Wilhelmshaven) is a famous German painter and sculptor, a central figure of the neo-expressionist movement of the “New Wild Ones” (Neue Wilde). A protagonist of the Berlin art scene of the 1970s and 1980s, he co-founded the Galerie am Moritzplatz to promote energetic figurative painting in contrast with the minimalism and conceptualism dominant at the time. His works are distinguished by vigorous brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and a strong emotional charge. He is influenced by the tradition of German Expressionism (such as the Die Brücke group) and by Vincent van Gogh. He explores the human condition, the male body (often nude), the urban landscapes of Berlin and New York, and themes related to sexual identity.
