Description from the seller
Elegant Art Nouveau Walking Cane – "The Man in the Moon and the Nymph"
Measurements: length 75 cm x 10; handle length x 2.50 width; weighs about 104 grams; Sterling Silver 925
Elegant antique walking cane, a perfect example of Fin de Siècle taste. The silver knob (or high-quality silver-plated metal) features finely detailed repoussé workmanship that unites celestial mysticism with the veiled eroticism typical of the Liberty period.
Knob Details
An original interpretation of the Man in the Moon, with a grotesque and sardonic profile, who seems to interact with a naked female figure (a nymph or muse) whose flowing hair blends with the sinuous lines of the metal, creating an organic and enveloping movement.
Style: Fully Art Nouveau, characterized by whip-like lines and strong dreamlike symbolism.
Stampings: There are marks at the base of the knob (visible in the macro photos). Although partially worn, the configuration suggests production in the United Kingdom.
Body: Made of solid, premium ebony wood with a beautiful glossy patina.
Tip: The cane ends in an original metal tip, a sign that it is a real-use item and not merely decorative.
Conditions: Overall excellent condition for its era. The metal shows a light natural patina that enhances its reliefs; small signs of wear consistent with the age that add authenticity to the piece; small breaks. Please look at the photographs for a better impression.
Specifications
Period: Late 19th - Early 20th century (approximately 1890-1910).
Target audience: canephilia collection, fine antiques, or a distinctive accessory for aficionados of the dandy style.
Note to the buyer: A rare find due to the unique design, which turns a everyday-use object into a small sculpture to carry with you.
