Everkeen magnetic razor sharpener from 1925 in the United States, made of Bakelite, 7 cm high by 5 cm wide by 8 cm deep and weighing 300 g, tested and working, in excellent condition with minimal signs of aging, includes two period razor blades (one loose and a rare unopened 'Lady' blade); frame and background poster are not part of the lot.
Description from the seller
Old and very rare Magnetic Automatic Razor Blade Sharpener “Everkeen”, manufactured in the United States, in 1925. The Magnetic Sharpener is functioning and in excellent condition, considering it is about 100 years old, but I don’t know if any piece is missing. It comes with two razor blades from the same era. One is loose, but the other is a rare “Lady”, which is still unopened. The frame and the background poster are not part of the lot.
Shaving blade sharpeners were created to sharpen and extend the lifespan of the blades.
Although these blades are disposable, the reality is that many men sought to reuse each blade as much as possible (the cost was relatively high for the era).
In the 1910s–1930s, a number of sharpening devices appeared, both manual and automatic, made by independent companies (such as Spiro, Twinplex, Allegro, among others). They were marketed as “blade savers” and promised to extend each blade’s life by ten or twenty times.
This magnetic sharpener is very rare under these conditions and is a great addition to any collection related to the history of shaving or to decorate a space.
The last image is merely informational and is not part of the Lot (this image is from a specialist site, where we can see the features and rarity of the piece).
