Description from the seller
Antique Sterling Silver Mesh Coin Purse
Edwardian / Art Nouveau Period, circa 1900
This piece is an elegant antique sterling silver mesh (chainmail) coin purse, dating to the early 20th century, during the Edwardian and Art Nouveau period. Coin purses of this type were considered luxury accessories and were commonly worn attached to a chatelaine, dance belt, or directly on the finger.
The craftsmanship, construction, and hallmarks indicate production by a skilled silversmith specializing in fine silver accessories of the era.
Design
The purse is crafted from a finely interlinked sterling silver mesh, forming a flexible chainmail body with a smooth, fluid feel.
It is fitted with a sturdy rectangular silver frame and a traditional kiss-lock ball clasp, which closes securely.
Two decorative silver droplet finials are suspended from the lower corners, adding balance and visual refinement.
An integrated silver finger ring at the top allowed the purse to be worn on the hand or attached to a chatelaine or belt chain.
