Description from the seller
This illustrated leaf is from the Holy book scribed by Abdullah at-Khadim in AD1616. It is in good condition. The format is very typical of a Sultanate India Koran of the early period with expansive headings and large script in fine hand. In this case, there are three large headings in Muhaqqaq, dividing the two sections of scripture. Attractive marginals mark key chapter divisions.
The leaf is from the Meccan Chapter 53, An-Najm (The Stara), v.32-35 which highlight Allah’s vast mercy and intimate knowledge of human nature, promising forgiveness to those who strive to avoid major sins and immoralities, despite committing minor lapses. It also cautions against self-righteousness, noting that God knows best who is truly pious, and rebukes those who ignore spiritual truths for temporary worldly gains. The verses emphasizes that Allah is fully aware of humans' weak nature from their creation, acknowledging that "misdemeanors" or minor faults may occur.
