Description from the seller

From July 22 to 27, 1924, the International Eucharistic Congress took place in Amsterdam. These congresses had been held regularly since 1881. They were grand manifestations in which believers celebrated the mystery of the Holy Eucharist. In 1924 the Eucharistic Congress was for the first and only time in the Netherlands. On that occasion, Mosa brought a commemorative plaque onto the market. In the middle of the plaque is a chalice with a host depicted. The chalice is placed on the world globe to indicate the international significance of the Holy Eucharist. On the host are the letters IHS, In Hoc Signo. That is Latin for ‘in this sign’. The motto ‘in hoc signo vinces’ (in this sign you will conquer) goes back to the conversion to Christianity of the Roman Emperor Constantine in the year 312. On the right side of the plaque is the city coat of arms of Amsterdam and on the left the coat of arms of Pius XI, pope from 1922 to 1939.
