AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Oil on canvas titled 'Ponton et marée basse' and signed.

Robert DELVAL (1934-2024)

Birth: 1934, Saules Street in Paris, in the Montmartre district.
Family background: His mother was coloring postcards; his father was a marble craftsman. He grew up surrounded by colors (surrounded by pots of color).
Artistic youth: He began to paint and draw at the age of six. He turned towards the Arts Déco around 1952-1955.
Travel and training: From 1959 to 1963, Delval traveled through Italy, Spain, Greece, and France, which influenced his artistic outlook. He spends a lot of time on the Côte d’Azur and in Saint-Tropez.
Early career exposed: In 1970, he met André Roussard, a frame-maker and gallery owner in Montmartre, who became his first dealer. From this first major exhibition under his patronage, his works sold well.
Style and influences: Influenced by Henri Matisse and Pierre Bonnard. Uses color expressively, with flat areas of color, luminous compositions, and sometimes a dreamy, dreamlike gaze. His themes include Montmartre, ports, flowers, nudes, and landscapes.
Exhibitions: Between 1970 and 1993, he exhibited in France and abroad (United States, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, Germany).
After 1994, he was represented by the Galerie de la Place (17 Place des Vosges in Paris) and later by other galleries, with permanent sales of his works through Galerie Estades, among others.
Recognitions: He received the Fernand Cormon Prize in 2010.

The work is dated, titled, and initialed 2001 on the back of the canvas, and is signed at the bottom right.
