Bronze Age spearhead, cast in bronze, about 15.7 cm long and 2.7 cm wide, with a central midrib and short tang, patination and encrustations, wear consistent with age, dating to circa 1200–600 BC, acquired in 2000 from a private collection, ex London Collection.
Description from the seller
A fine Bronze Age cast bronze arrowhead with a prominent central midrib and a short tang. The blade gently widens from the stem to near mid-section, then gradually tapers to a pointed tip. Patination and earthly encrustations to the surface. Signs of wear as consistent with age, such as chips to the edges and some surface scratches.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites settled in the Western Asiatic region. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of these bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Most of these bronze items have been recovered in funerary contexts.
Measurements: (circa) L 15.7cm x W 2.7cm
Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
