Description from the seller

Vintage Greek Orthodox home shrine - Handmade silver-plated icon of Virgin Mary & Child - Mid-century Folk Art altar lamp, Greek craftsmanship / Monastery workshop.

This is a rare and highly decorative Orthodox Home Shrine (Iconostasis), a beautiful example of Greek Folk Art from the mid-20th century. This handmade piece functions both as a devotional object and a unique night light lamp.
Central icon features a high-relief silver-plated depiction of the Virgin Mary Hodegetria (The Guide) holding the Christ Child. The silver-toned metal creates a stunning contrast against the deep blue velvet background. The icon is housed within a wooden arched shrine, supported by two pairs of fluted columns with Byzantine-style floral capitals and a top cross. The wooden base is adorned with a beautiful, hand-carved Greek Meander (Fret) pattern, symbolizing infinity and the eternal flow of life.

Designed as a spiritual altar lamp, it features an internal socket for a small bulb, intended to illuminate the icon from below, creating a warm and peaceful ambiance for prayer or decoration.

Greece, Mid-Century (circa 1950-1960)

Materials: Wood, silver-plated metal, velvet, electrical components.

Excellent vintage condition with an authentic patina on the metal. The wood and velvet are well-preserved. Original wiring (untested; recommended to check for modern safety standards).
Dimensions: 22 X 15.5 X 5 cm.
Strong custom packing, registered shipping.
