Description from the seller

Bronze sculpture made with the lost-wax casting typical of the Edo ethnicity (Benin, Nigeria). The figure is identified as the Oba (King) on horseback, a symbol of power since horses were reserved for the nobility. Sculptures were normally intended to adorn palace decorations. It represents a king on horseback, perhaps Prince Oranmiyan, the first to bring horses to Benin. Good details, armor, spear and shield, finish of the horse, excellent patina.
