Tom Lanoye - Schermutseling (Polemieken) - 2007

Polemics must rub rough, was probably the idea behind the bibliophile edition of 'Schermutseling'. Twenty-five copies of the first edition, mindful of this 'philosophy', were bound in… sandpaper. As usual, the bookbinding workshop De Pers in Antwerp took on this 'dangerous' task, and just as usual, it yielded a beautiful result. With tri-colour raised bands, the half-linen bound book also received a special slipcase with a spine title and, on the front, a handwritten numbering and the author's signature. That, by the way, was repeated again in the colophon.
A book — setting aside the contents for a moment — something you shouldn’t handle without gloves. But beautiful!
