Description from the seller

Derbant Russe
Hand-knotted wool Orient rug decorated with three central medallions and three borders. The rug is dated 1970.
Sold with its certificate of authenticity.
Derbent (Derbent rug): hand-woven rugs with geometric patterns made in the city of Derbent and its surrounding areas, in Daghestan, in the northeast of the Caucasus. Rugs produced before 1925 are distinguished from others by a often longer velvet, fewer colors, and a looser, larger knotting.
When talking about Caucasian rugs, reference is made to those originating from regions located south, east, and north of the Caucasus mountain range. Rugs predating 1925 are classified into five groups: Kazakh, Karabakh, Shirvan, Kuba, and Dagestani rugs. Rugs from the Karabakh region often feature gentle motifs and resemble Persian rugs. Beyond this classification, there are also Ganja, Sile, and Verni rugs. These rugs are distinguished by their highly varied and imaginative geometric patterns.
