Description from the seller
PLATO DEL SUR is a 70×100 cm painting by the contemporary artist Ernest García.
This painting presents a contemporary reinterpretation of the classical still life, charged with Mediterranean symbolism and chromatic exuberance. On a table covered by a pink and violet-toned tablecloth, rests a large oval plate decorated with floral motifs, which houses a scene as everyday as it is vibrant: several fresh mackerels and oranges with leaves, arranged as if just brought from the market.
The contrast between the silvery reflections of the fish and the warmth of the citrus fruits creates a harmonic tension that is visually stimulating. The oranges, symbol of the southern sun, add bright accents against the blazing orange background, almost incendiary, which envelops the scene with a warm and enveloping energy.
The composition is dominated by curved shapes and bold lines, creating a visual rhythm that guides the eye in a spiral through the plate. The quick, dense, and expressive brushstrokes contribute a sense of immediacy and freshness, as if the moment were about to dissolve.
Beyond its decorative appearance, this work evokes the simple rituals of everyday life in the south: freshly caught fish, seasonal fruit, the vivid colors of a kitchen open to the sea. The still life ceases to be a static object and becomes a tribute to the senses and to the cultural identity of a luminous and fertile land.
