Description from the seller
Beautiful multicolored camel stool for a Boho Chic or retro interior. The stool is located in the Netherlands, but its likely origin is North Africa, more specifically Morocco. This type of stool usually comes from North Africa, especially Morocco, sometimes Egypt and occasionally Tunisia. Based on style and finish, this is not an antique nomad object, but a decorative export piece, dating from: 1960s – 1980s.
These reproduction stools are inspired by traditional camel saddles of Berber and desert cultures. In the 20th century they were made as decorative furniture for export and tourism. The style is recognizable by the following external features:
- Wooden base with curved legs
- Upholstery of goat- or cowhide, in this case brown/white spotted
- Brass studs and round brass medallions
Seat height: 10 cm
Length: 58 cm
Depth: 31 cm
Sitting height: 40 cm
Brass caps, brass nails and brass decoration have a nice patina. The medallions depict figures, if I observe correctly they are people riding animals. I expect an image of a camel or horse. It is not very clear, so I think it is also a relatively early example from the reproduction period, 1960. The wood shows signs of wear appropriate to its age. The leather cushion shows the same. The seat cushion is removable.
The stool is sturdy, strong, and in a very decorative condition. Photos have been taken from all sides, so you can inspect the condition of the stool and the cushion yourself. The photos are part of the description.
Shipped from the Netherlands. I will ship the stool well-packaged and insured to you.
