Description of the work.
Attracted by ancient books of zoology, biology and entomology, I draw on canvas a personal naturalistic book, featuring animals and insects together with the leaves of my homeland, which leave their imprint on the canvas and in the observer's mind.
This work is handmade with the technique of tactile relief, using a fine-grain quartz mortar, applied with a spatula on cotton or jute canvas.
The surface, characterized by a grainy and resistant texture, creates natural light play that highlights the formed shapes, giving the work strong three-dimensionality.
This work has as support the jute canvas, which also provides a strong material tridimensionality, where the rough weave of the jute, left partly visible, interacts with warm color overlays. The tenacious and rough fibers of the canvas convey a nearly ancestral tactile sensation. The ochre and brown tones of the jute support blend with the quartz mortar, creating a contrast between the raw naturalness of the material and the intentional gesturality of the artist, making the painting a visual narrative between matter and time.
