Description from the seller
Han van Krimpen & Monique Berends-Albert (editors) - The Letters of Vincent van Gogh - The Hague - SDU Uitgeverij - 1990 - 4 volumes, bound in yellow linen with a reading ribbon - in a yellow linen-covered case - 2254 pp - with various indexes and a list of illustrations - a small name and year on the title page of volume 1, spines a hair discolored, otherwise in good condition.
A scholarly edition of Vincent van Gogh's letters, annotated and illustrated with drawings and paintings by his own hand.
Vincent van Gogh was a fervent letter writer. He had a strong need to share his ideas and feelings. After he and his siblings had left home, they wrote to each other and to their parents regularly.
By far the vast majority of the letters are addressed to his brother Theo, his best friend and confidant. Theo kept Vincent's letters carefully. Vincent was less meticulous – many letters were discarded or burned by him.
