Description from the seller

Friends of conic pairs,

It is with great sorrow that I put my 900 Ducati up for sale, bought new in February 1978 from Carniel. And yes, it's a first-hand one! After a long career on the road, at the Carole circuit and a few hill climbs, with about 45,000 km, it fell asleep for two decades. On the eve of my retirement, I set to giving it a new life. Everything has been dismantled, checked, cleaned, polished, tuned:

The frame and Campagnolo epoxy-painted wheels (with new bearings), the NCR 1977 bodywork (the first imported into France by Carniel!) original, treated with Restom and repainted. Fork, shocks reconditioned to new (new seals, new oil), brake calipers and master cylinders front/rear reconditioned with Brembo kit, new Avia hoses, new steering taper bearings.

Electrical circuit checked and tested. Ignition circuit, sensor, new parts, and adjustment at Pierre Foucart (PF motos Argenteuil). Former mechanic at Val d'Oise compétition and endurance mechanic for the NCR team, then for Marc Granié at the TT, among others. That’s to say the level of the guy’s expertise in cone-coupling mechanics.

Engine side: bore to first oversize and Wiseco pistons, new valves, Imola camshaft, lightened flywheel, lightened transmission. Complete engine reassembly by Pierre Foucart. Adjustment of crankshaft endplay, metrology, adjustment of cone torque settings, valve clearance adjustment, carburation tuning. 40 mm carburetors with adapted and polished intake passages (originally 32) … a clock. Oil circuit modified with an oil cooler.

Some will say, yes, but it’s a Darmah with a disdainful air. I can assure you that in terms of riding behavior the difference is that it’s ridden by a factory rider; it’s a beast like a 900 SS and with even an advantage: the eccentric adjustment of the chain tension affects the wheelbase and also what’s original about the height and therefore the ground clearance, an adjustment that is impossible on an SS.

This machine also has original parts: NCR recessed controls, a custom milled footrest plate, a homemade fork brace, a honeycombed rear brake plate inspired by NCR (great milling work).

Véglia Racing tachometer, Tomaselli throttle grip, and complete road-legal compliance for on-road use: odometer, lighting, indicators, license plate light. The technical inspection is OK with no restrictions. (even the noise, but oh well, we could always arrange something… )

Since its refurbishment, this machine has covered 3,000 km. My age no longer allows me to take long rides with it; I must admit that the seating position isn’t the most comfortable, even if riding it is a massive thrill.

Hoping I have whetted your appetite, I would, with a heavy heart (after all, she has been my mistress for 48 years), surrender this superb, extraordinary machine to a passionate enthusiast who will appreciate it beyond its flaws.
The buyer will be responsible for delivery or transport; the best option is for him to come and collect it on site, especially since a few additional items will be included with the machine, notably a full NCR fairing and new windshields, the original documents, and the specific tools.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
