Brown calf binding, spine with four ornate raised bands, red title piece, double golden fillet on the boards, red edges, worn heads and corners, split at one hinge.
Francis Bacon of Verulam (1560-1626), Chancellor of England, scientist and philosopher. The “De dignitate et augmentis scientiarum” first published in English in 1605 and later in Latin in 1623 establishes a classification of the sciences of his era.
