Sylvester Mazzolini (1456/1457–1527)
Avrea Rosa R. P. F. Silvestri De Prierio Pedemontani ... :Videlicet Clarissima Expositio super Euangelia totius anni, de tempore & de sanctis. Venice, Giacomo Sansovino (Iacomo Sanfouino), 1569.

Sylvester Mazzolini, in Italian Silvestro Mazzolini da Prierio, in Latin Sylvester Prierias (1456/1457–1527), was a Dominican theologian, born in Priero, Piedmont; he died in Rome. Prierias came to be killed when the imperial troops entered the city and caused the Sack of Rome.
Prierias is regarded as the first theologian to publicly attack Martin Luther's teachings in his writings. Johann Tetzel's writings against the Reformator are described by Jacques Échard as scattered pages (folia volitantia), and Mazzolini emerges as the first advocate of the Roman popes against Luther. Luther replied to Mazzolinis' arguments, after which he published counter-arguments, and a regular controversy arose between the two.
Rosa aurea (Bologna, 1510) a commentary on the Gospels of the year.
Publication context: The work was published in 1510 in Bologna and predates his most famous work, the Summa Summarum (also known as Sylvestrina), which became a standard encyclopedia of theology of that time.
Rosa aurea is often counted among his main works along with his theological, astronomical, and controversial writings.
