Description from the seller
Wall-mounted painted case – Popular art of Eastern Europe – Late 19th century / early 20th century
Rare solid wood wall cabinet, hand-decorated with polychrome geometric motifs typical of Central European popular art, probably Hungarian or Transylvanian.
The front features a rich painted decoration structured in registers: concentric friezes, symbolic circular motifs and finely drawn geometric frames. The color palette (deep red, ochre yellow, green, blue and black) is characteristic of rural productions of the late 19th century.
The central door is equipped with its old locking mechanism including a wooden bolt and a handcrafted metal chain.
Overall, it exudes strong authenticity and a marked ethnographic charm.
