Description from the seller
Large Art Nouveau Bronze Vase with Mythological Mask and Dragon Handles
France, circa 1890–1910
Impressive and sculptural solid bronze vase executed in the late Art Nouveau / Neo-Classical revival style. The vase features a finely modelled central female mask framed within flowing organic forms, flanked by dramatic dragon or griffin-form handles. The body is richly decorated with vegetal motifs and finished in a deep brown patina with green highlights enhancing the relief work.
The flared neck is decorated with stylised floral ornamentation, while the stepped circular base provides balance and architectural presence.
This piece reflects the strong French decorative arts tradition at the turn of the 20th century, where classical mythology was reinterpreted through Art Nouveau movement and naturalistic forms.
