It is the second book in what is sometimes called the "Blofeld trilogy", sitting between Thunderball, where SPECTRE is introduced, and You Only Live Twice, where Bond defeats Blofeld. In the novel, Bond is tasked with tracking down Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the head of the criminal organization SPECTRE. He enlists the help of Tracy Draco, the daughter of a Corsican gangster, and together they masquerade as a married couple to get close to Blofeld. However, Bond soon falls in love with Tracy, and their relationship complicates their mission. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is a darker and more introspective novel than Fleming's previous Bond books. It explores themes of love, loss, and betrayal, and it is considered by many to be one of the best books in the series. The novel was adapted into a film in 1969, starring George Lazenby as Bond.
