Dimensions with frame: 35 × 52.5 cm
⸻
In this lively open-air scene, Alexandre Defaux depicts a duck in motion, accompanied by hints of poultry in the background. The loosely applied brushstrokes and the bright, earthy tones create a natural, impressionist-influenced lighting effect.
Defaux was a student of Jean-Baptiste Corot and part of the Barbizon School. He is known for his atmospheric landscapes and animal depictions, in which simple rural life is poetically idealized. This work combines his typical features: loose brushwork, naturalistic coloration, and a sense of movement and atmosphere.
