Description from the seller
Clone of the beautiful Swiss Boenicke W5 diffuser (diffuser) with the best version featuring all components filtered.
Nearly 3-way system with a side subwoofer in the rear bass reflex, front full-range (tanband w3 871sc, shielded to be brought close to electronics without hum) and a rear ambience tweeter.
The in-room response is much more linear than the original (which tended to have a marked dip in the mids) while preserving its characteristic tonal footprint, mainly thanks to the surprising side subwoofer.
A small switch has been added that controls the rear tweeter to soften the highs a bit when the speakers are placed close to a rear wall (quite likely, given the very compact dimensions).
Cabinet made from a single plank of Italian solid oak, 7 cm thick, CNC-machined.
A charming speaker, engaging and forgiving in both drive and placement. The bass and dynamics surprise for a speaker that large.
Despite the size, it needs a few watts to perform at its best; personally I believe the perfect pairing is with something modern in Class D, perhaps one of the compact but powerful Chinese amplifiers like Fosi, SMSL, Ayima, etc...
The crossover was designed with great care to maintain an exemplary impedance curve (minimum 4 Ohms, ideal for Class D…) and a phase variation of at most 20 degrees.
