Mariska was born in Suriname, South America. Of Surinamese origin, Indonesian, African and a bit Dutch, she grew up in the Netherlands. Raised in the beautiful Vermeer City – Delft, living in Rembrandtland, the Netherlands, she came into contact with Venice for a commission for a perfume brand and was deeply moved by the Baroque art, architecture and history of Venice. All these influences in her life inspired her. Mariska began to incorporate these inspirations into her own work, with influences from her life and existence.
Mariska spends a lot of time carefully assembling her sets, which also includes her other talents. She sketches with charcoal, works with gold, textiles and is an excellent photo manipulator. All her talents come together in every piece she makes.
