Seventeenth-century edition of the famous work by the Olivetine abbot on the contemporary polemic about the superiority of the previous centuries compared to the present era. The work is divided into 50 “disinganni” or chapters, each devoted to a topic, with the aim of reassessing the modern world in relation to the past. Of great interest are the chapters on the vanity of women, on housing, on food, on avarice, on justice, on the physical appearance of men, on infidelity, on earthquakes and on prodigies, portents, monsters and miracles.
