Description from the seller

Rare bed pan from the period 1750-1800. The top is adorned with a sun motif surrounded by flowers. The wooden handle is hand-nailed to the pan with a band of wrought iron. A fine piece of craftsmanship. The wood has woodworm holes; the woodworm is no longer active, but has been treated as a precaution, so 100 percent safe. The pan has some cracks after more than 250 years; see photos. Such construction you will not encounter very often.

Bed pan
In winter, bedpans were used to pre-warm the bed. Such a pan consisted of a flat, round iron or copper basin with a hinged lid with a few ventilation holes. It had a long metal or wooden handle and could be filled with hot stones, a shallow layer of boiling water, or glowing coal—things that could not be slid between the sheets without risk...

This lot has been carefully cleaned and will be carefully packaged, sent by registered mail and insured (with Track & Trace code so you can track the shipment). Pickup in (Ridderkerk, South Holland) is also possible. I also have delicious hand-ground coffee.
