Medsan presents here a work that is at once melancholic and deeply humorous, capturing the essence of temporal dissonance. This square-format giclée features a rōnin (masterless samurai) from the Edo period, lost in ultra-modern Japan lit by neon from a konbini (24-hour convenience store).

The composition brims with delicious details that will delight lovers of contemporary Japanese culture. Our tired warrior, sporting a traditional chignon (chonmage) and wearing an oversized denim jacket tossed over his kimono, watches with a resigned perplexity a plain bag of chips (reminiscent of the famous Calbee brand). Behind him, the store's colorful shelves showcase Japanese junk-food classics: Pocky, KitKat and onigiri.

This mass-consumption setting starkly contrasts with the exterior's tragic poetry: through the Eleven’s storefront, one can glimpse a downpour and a full moon, borrowing the classic codes of nocturnal landscape prints. The red cartouche in the top right displays the work's title: イレブンの浪人 (Irebu no Rōnin – "The Ronin of Eleven"), while the signature "Medosan" appears bottom right.
